Package tours through South Africa

That depends on your own wishes: In the summer months (December to February) it always stays pleasantly warm up to around 30°C and the sun shines practically every day. So if you want a vacation with the best climatic conditions, you should go in the summer (in the German winter). However, the winter months (June to August) are by no means as uncomfortable as a German winter: Temperatures rarely drop below 10 degrees and can also rise to 20 degrees, especially in the area around Cape Town. Despite the cooler and unsteady climate, many travelers are enthusiastic about Cape Town in winter. Why? Whales are cavorting off the coast, nature is in full bloom, prices are cheaper and there are generally fewer tourists. So it depends on your own taste: Each season offers its own peculiarities.

Depending on the region, there are always outbreaks of different pathogens. Therefore, you should always find out which vaccinations are currently recommended by the Foreign Office.

Malaria only occurs in the northeast of the country: in the well-known Kruger National Park and the surrounding areas. Especially during the rainy season the risk is very high. In Cape Town and most of the country, however, there is no risk of malaria.

Cape Town is considered the safest city in South Africa. Like any other metropolis, the Mother City has certain corners that tourists should avoid. Basically, you should move with similar caution as you would in New York or Barcelona, for example.

The main languages of South Africa are Zulu and Xhosa. The clicking sounds are foreign at first; however, it is worth learning a few words to show your appreciation in one situation or another, or to elicit a benevolent smile from the person you are talking to. But don’t worry: In addition to the main languages, there are two official languages, Afrikaans and English. So in most situations you will get on with English. Afrikaans might sound familiar when you read it, as it originates from Dutch. However, it has evolved over time into a language of its own and is also seen by the younger generation as an attribute of their modern, open identity.

Most stores and service providers accept credit cards. You can also withdraw cash from several ATMs. You should do this especially before traveling to the countryside, because many game reserve parks and wineries do not have ATMs.

A usual value is similar to Germany or Switzerland, about 10% of the bill. With good service it can also be 15%.

A variety of different types of electrical outlets pop up in South Africa. To avoid having to rely on your luck, be sure to get a universal adapter when traveling through the country. The mains voltage is 230 volts, just like in Germany and Switzerland.

Yes with pleasure. We can recommend many Guest Houses and Hotels in Cape Town and along the Garden Route for every budget.

In principle, driving a car in South Africa is not a problem. However, you should be aware that left-hand traffic prevails. This can lead to confusion and uncertainty, especially in the first few days and immediately after arrival. Especially the roads along the Garden Route are well developed.

Correctly, in addition to a German driver’s license, you need an international driver’s license. This is easy to apply for and does not require any further tests. Benevolent authorities sometimes also accept the European driver’s license. To avoid any risk, however, the international driver’s license is highly recommended: It makes a possible inspection much less stressful and in case of an insurance claim you are on the safe side. Important information: If you still have an old driver’s license, the application for the international driver’s license is tied to the issuance of the new check-card driver’s license. In this case, you should contact your road traffic office at least six weeks before your trip.
